Bruno Guimaraes has starred as Newcastle United marched back into the Champions League.
The Brazilian has arguably been Eddie Howeâs standout player and played a major role in helping Newcastle reach Europeâs elite club competition once more.
Guimaraes has openly talked about the need to make it back into the Champions League for the clubâs long-term project.
Having done so during the first full season under Howe and the new owners, that feels like progress at a rather remarkable rate.
While the midfielder has perhaps not been quite at his best in recent weeks, Newcastle simply wouldnât be where they are without him.
Bruno Guimaraes posts message after Newcastle make the Champions League
Naturally, given his importance to the cause, fans would have been paying particular attention to what Guimaraes made of the achievement.
Taking to Twitter after the game, the Brazil international wrote in reaction to his own tweet about missing the competition posted last year: âIt looks impossible until itâs done.â
Guimaraes will be crucial to the Champions League campaign
That sounds rather obvious given his starring status as it is.
Still, the 25-year-old is one of the few players in the squad who has experience in the competition, albeit not a huge amount.
That will be absolutely crucial going forward. Someone in the middle of the park who is used to how things work in Europe feels like an absolutely vital thing to have in what is uncharted territory for much of the squad.
This feels like only the beginning of Guimaraesâ story on Tyneside. Â
