The Northern Echo have reported that a £35 million bid from Newcastle United has been accepted by Olympique Lyonnais for Bruno Guimaraes. One player who will benefit from this move is Joelinton.
Since the arrival of Eddie Howe, the 25-year-old has come on leaps and bounds. Also, he’s been their most improved player this season and the best performer under Howe. This new Joelinton that we’ve seen is now justifying his £40 million price tag.
The only obstacles in the way Guimaraes are the agent fee and a medical. That’s according to Sky Sports’ Fabrizio Romano.
Guimaraes is a ‘highly rated’ midfielder, linked with big clubs
The likes of Arsenal (Sky Sports) and Juventus (The Guardian) have had an interest in Guimaraes. So if he is to sign for Newcastle, it would be a great coup.
David Ornstein of The Athletic spoke highly of the 24-year-old on the BBC’s ‘Transfer Gossip Daily’ podcast. He stated, “There’s still a bit of work to do, then it would potentially be a spectacular signing. He’s so highly rated.”
With links to big clubs and high praise from transfer experts, it could really improve Newcastle’s midfield. Joelinton has been one of the standout performers in that position, adding Guimaraes would benefit him greatly.

Brazil connection aside, the 25-year-old has quality and could see Joelinton get even better
Firstly, both men are Brazilian, giving Joelinton someone he can speak to in his first language, Portuguese. We’re not sure as of yet how good Guimaraes’ English is but ‘Big Joe’ could definitely help him out.
Furthermore, communication on the pitch might be easier for him. Newcastle’s number 7 may find it easier getting his point across in his native tongue to Guimaraes.
Nationality aside, the ability of the new arrival is going to add quality to the Magpies’ midfield. The Brazilian is the complete midfielder and has all the abilities of our current midfield in one.
He can pass, break defensive lines and is strong defensively. Hearing this description of a player sounds incredibly exciting. Joelinton could well learn so much with him in midfield and become even better.

The arrival of Guimaraes would benefit not just Newcastle, but Joelinton specifically. The man often called ‘J7’ can help the fellow Brazilian with life on Tyneside and can communicate in Portuguese. The new arrival could lift the Toon Army’s midfield and make Joelinton better in the process.
With Newcastle fighting for survival in the Premier League, some fans will be very excited about the deal. He could be the type of player that leads the charge to avoid the drop.
