Bruno Guimaraes should start on Newcastle bench v Everton

One of the big Newcastle United talking points heading into the Everton match is their new signing Bruno Guimaraes. He was their most expensive signing of the January transfer window and has a very strong reputation.

He signed for £42 million-plus add ons, according to The Athletic. The likes of Arsenal were interested in the Brazillian, but Guimaraes explained why he snubbed them.

Tonight the Magpies host Everton. Both sides are aiming to avoid the drop and secure safety this season. There’s a very big chance the 24-year-old will make his debut. However, boss Eddie Howe should avoid putting him in from the start.

Guimaraes hasn’t had enough time to gel into the team

With international commitments with Brazil, Guimaraes has only been training with the Toon for a few days. So putting him in straight from the start might not be the best idea.

Additionally, having the option of bringing him off the bench in a home fixture could have a real impact. There are a number of different scenarios Newcastle could be in once the midfielder comes on. Regardless the atmosphere will be incredible.

So for example, if both teams are on level terms, Guimaraes coming on could lift the atmosphere and push on the Magpies to change the game.

Additionally, later in the game players will be fatigued. The Brazilian can use this to his advantage as he’ll have a fresh pair of legs. He could dominate the midfield in the latter stages of the game.

Guimaraes should definitely make his debut tonight. Whatever position Newcastle are in, bringing him on will create an amazing atmosphere that will lift the players.

Tonight’s opposition are fighting for survival just like the Toon Army. It could take something special to separate the sides and a fresh off the bench Guimaraes may provide just that.
