Bruno Guimaraes could not hide his emotions immediately after Newcastle United’s Champions League defeat to Marseille.

The 28-year-old was unable to stop Newcastle United losing against Marseille, as a disastrous second half display ended the Magpies’ run of consecutive European victories.

Nick Pope’s error within 20 seconds of the game restarting set Eddie Howe’s side up for failure, having taken the lead in the first few minutes through Harvey Barnes.

But Newcastle were sloppy in the second half, throwing away victory at the Stade Velodrome.

Toon fans are extremely frustrated after the game, and that feeling is shared by the captain.

Bruno Guimaraes says Newcastle United’s defeat to Marseille is ‘hard to accept’

Following Newcastle’s 2-1 loss to Marseille, Bruno Guimaraes spoke to TNT Sports Mexico.

The Brazilian midfielder admitted it was ‘hard to accept losing’, before stating that he and his teammates are ‘very angry’ about the defeat against the Ligue 1 side.

“Of course we learn from mistakes, but today it’s a match that’s hard to accept losing,” he said

“We were winning 1–0 and in five minutes we went 2–1 down.

“And afterwards we also had a chance to score, but the match was a bit strange, a bit different in the second half, and we’re leaving very angry about the defeat.”

Bruno Guimaraes must channel Newcastle United anger against Everton

Bruno Guimaraes is angry, and so he should be. The whole Newcastle United squad should be, as they failed to win away from home yet again.

Now they need to respond, not for the first time this season.

Perversely, it feels fitting that they will be forced to respond on the road. Newcastle United have bounced back on multiple occasions this season, but it has always been inside the comfort of St James’ Park.

But Saturday will be different, with Newcastle United facing Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. An angry Toon side must take the game to the Toffees, who will be full of confidence following their win over Manchester United.

Newcastle’s game management was all wrong in Marseille, and that must change on Merseyside this weekend.
