Bruno Guimaraes could not help but feel frustrated after Newcastle United’s defeat against Barcelona.
Eddie Howe’s side started their Champions League campaign with a defeat as Newcastle lost 2-1 to Barcelona.
It was a valiant effort by the Magpies, who were simply beaten by the better team. Hansi Flick’s side were incredible at St James’ Park, proving why they are one of the favourites to win the entire competition.
Pedri and Frenkie de Jong were outstanding, dictating the game with their immense intelligence and ability on the ball.
That was the source of Bruno Guimaraes’ frustration, with the Newcastle United captain struggling to impose himself against Barcelona’s world class midfield.

Bruno Guimaraes explains how Barcelona wore Newcastle United down
Following Newcastle’s loss to Barcelona, Bruno spoke to TNT Sports Brazil.
The 27-year-old could not hide his admiration for Barcelona, admitting they are such an ‘annoying’ team to play against because they are elite when it comes to keeping the ball.
“Barcelona is an annoying team because they always want to keep possession,” he said.
“They never tire of controlling the ball. They’re a team that makes you lose your temper you don’t get the ball, so you get physically drained and tired, and when you do get the ball, you don’t act well because you’re exhausted.”
Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle United must learn from Barcelona masterclass
Every day is a school day, and that was certainly the case for Newcastle United against Barcelona.
Eddie Howe is widely considered to have the best midfield in the Premier League, but they paled in comparison to Barcelona. It was an elite performance from Pedri, while De Jong put his stamp on proceedings despite being followed around the pitch by Joelinton.
For Bruno and co, the Barcelona display is merely a blueprint for them to improve. As they continue to grow, they must learn how to stop teams like Barcelona dictating the game, or at least improve their discipline when out of possession.
It was frustrating for Newcastle. They could not get on the ball, and when they did their decisions were poor. That is what a team like Barcelona does to you.
But it is a learning curve, and should hopefully result in Bruno becoming a better player. While Newcastle did not pick up any Champions League points on Thursday night, they did learn what should be a valuable lesson.
