Newcastle United and Bruno Guimaraes are bouncing back.
After the disappointment of losing to Brentford, Newcastle United responded in emphatic fashion on Saturday.
Newcastle beat Leicester City 4-0, cruising past Ruud van Nistelrooy’s relegation-threatened Foxes. It was a game that the Magpies should be winning, and they did just that in style. In truth, it could have been more than four.
It was the first time this season that Newcastle have convincingly won a game they were expected to win, with Eddie Howe’s side suffering from their own inconsistency.
What Alan Shearer recently said about Newcastle

The Magpies have had some big results already this season. They have not lost to any of the ‘big six’ at home, beating the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, as well as Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. Newcastle also drew with Manchester City and Liverpool.
Eddie Howe’s side have proven they can mix it up with the Premier League’s elite, with Newcastle boasting their own top level players.
However, those top level players have subsequently not delivered on a consistent basis against the rest of the Premier League.
Alan Shearer questioned Newcastle’s attitude after losing to Brentford, bemoaning the Magpies for seemingly only getting up for games against the ‘big six’. That shocking performance against Brentford came on the back of a thrilling match versus Liverpool that Newcastle should have won.
Bruno Guimaraes responds to criticism
Newcastle responded to that criticism with a fitting performance against Leicester on Saturday. However, there had already been a response from Bruno Guimaraes ahead of the game.
In the pre-match programme, the Newcastle United captain addressed his side’s recent struggles against sides from outside the ‘big six’.
“We know what we’re capable of,” he wrote.
“We know we have to improve and play better against teams outside of the ‘big six’.”
Newcastle must ensure Leicester win was not an anomaly
Bruno said Newcastle needed to play better against those teams, and they did exactly that on Saturday.
While there were a couple of nervy moments at the start when the Magpies cheaply gave away possession, the result was never in doubt once Newcastle took the lead.
But now Newcastle need to do that on a regular basis ahead of two more crucial games this week.

First up is Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, followed by Ipswich Town away in the Premier League.
They are two massive fixtures that Newcastle United must win. The Magpies are determined to end their trophy drought, while Howe’s side need to put together a run of results in the Premier League.
Bruno knows Newcastle can do a lot better, and he and his teammates started to do just that on Saturday. They bounced back from the criticism, and now must prove that it was not a one-off.
