Bruno Guimaraes scored his first goal since January last night as he netted the final goal in Newcastle United’s 4-1 win over Brighton and his celebration had a touching meaning behind it.
Since Bruno Guimaraes signed for Newcastle in January 2022 he has oozed class on and off the pitch. From his announcement video on social media to his goal celebration last night and everything in between he’s been a fantastic example of the modern professional footballer.
When Bruno lashed in Newcastle’s fourth goal last night he ran to the Gallowgate end and made a letter A with his fingers before he walked back to the midfield and turned to the Milburn Stand and looked up to where his family was sat. He drew a heart in the air and then made an M with his fingers for his son, Matteo.
Bruno took to social media to explain his goal celebration
So what was with the letter A?
Bruno tweeted after the game with a photo of his “A” celebration and beside that a picture of him with a young boy called Arthur. He captioned it: “This was for you, my young boy!! We are behind you! Everything will be alright”.

I’m not crying. You’re crying!
Bruno dedicated his goal to young Arthur Salters-Hoult
The Chronicle added a bit more context explaining that the little boy is Arthur Salters-Hoult, from Wallsend, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia early this year. Arthur is having to undergo the most intensive form of chemotherapy and the youngster may need a bone marrow transplant in the future.
Fingers crossed for the little man that he gets all the treatment he needs and it works out for him. I can’t imagine what him and his family must be going through, and I’m sure his new mate, Bruno will be by his side as much as he can, that’s just the kind of man he is.
