Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have been asked to name a Brazilian player they would like Newcastle United to sign, and there are no prizes for guessing who the former picked.

Newcastle United’s Brazilian duo have been speaking to the That’s Football YouTube channel, and were asked to pick another Brazilian to join them at St James’ Park.

They are spoilt for choice given the amount of talent that Brazil has, but Bruno Guimaraes went for someone who is already flying in the Premier League – Lucas Paqueta.

Joelinton agreed with Bruno’s choice of the West Ham United star, but also threw someone even better into the mix – Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.

Bruno Guimaraes wants Lucas Paqueta at Newcastle

Speaking to the That’s Football YouTube channel, Bruno named Paqueta as the Brazilian player he would like to see at Newcastle United.

“I played with him at Lyon, I would say Lucas Paqueta,” he said.

“He is one of my best friends. I like him, so I would say him.”

Joelinton added: “Yeah, Paqueta or Vinicius Junior. He’s a lovely guy as well.”

Newcastle did try to sign Paqueta, but West Ham got him

Bruno’s dream almost became a reality in 2022. Paqueta was heavily linked with a move to Tyneside ahead of Eddie Howe’s first full season as Toon manager, and there were even claims that Newcastle would break their transfer record to sign him from Lyon.

That did not happen, with Paqueta instead joining West Ham for £51million. He has done well in claret and blue, with the Hammers winning the Europa Conference League last season and currently sitting sixth in the Premier League.

Adding Paqueta to our midfield would be sensational, and he would certainly be welcome right now given our injury woes!

The 26-year-old is a player who Howe has admitted he likes in the past, while there were claims over the summer that he was once again on Newcastle’s radar.

However, a move clearly did not materialise, nor did his proposed transfer to Manchester City.

But the fact that Man City wanted him speaks volumes about Paqueta’s talent, and it is a real shame that Newcastle have not been able to reunite him with Bruno.

It feels like that will probably never happen now, but it is at least more likely than Vinicius Junior joining the Magpies. He is one of the best players on the planet, and I think any deal for him would definitely see us breach the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules!
