Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton were hoping to be involved in the Brazil squad to face Morocco in a friendly later this month, but the Newcastle United duo have not been selected to represent their country.

The most recent Brazil squad was announced on Friday afternoon by Ramon Menezes, who is the Selecao’s caretaker boss following the departure of Tite. He has made multiple changes to the World Cup squad, including dropping Bruno.

There is also no place for Joelinton, who was reportedly in contention. The Daily Mail recently reported that the 26-year-old was being talked about for a debut callup to the Brazil squad, but that has not happened.

Instead, he will remain on Tyneside during the upcoming international break – and he will be joined by fellow countryman Bruno, who has also been snubbed.

No Brazil callups for Bruno Guimaraes or Joelinton

Menezes has named a 23-man squad, which is three players fewer than were at the World Cup in Qatar. The smaller squad could be the reason why Bruno has lost his place, with various players getting a first ever callup.

There is room in the squad for Wolves youngster Joao Gomes, former Newcastle target Andrey Santos and current Toon transfer interest Vitor Roque.

Brazil appear to be looking at players for the future during the upcoming international break, which has resulted in Bruno losing his place. He will be desperate to win it back, and it could lead to him playing even better in a Newcastle shirt.

As for Joelinton, it is a great shame that he has missed out. His performances deserve international recognition, but that hasn’t happened. It is looking increasingly likely that he will never get the chance to wear the yellow of Brazil.

That is majorly disappointing, but Newcastle will be secretly delighted that neither player is involved.

Bruno and Joelinton are key players for Eddie Howe. It is vital they are fit and available for the remaining Premier League games as we look to qualify for the Champions League.
