Monday night was one to remember for Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier.
While the domestic season is over, the 33-year-old was back leading a team out at St James’ Park in front of more than 50,000 people. But the team and the supporters were slightly different, as England played at the home of Newcastle United.
For the first time since 2005, the men’s England side played at St James’ Park, as they continue to prepare for Euro 2024. Two Newcastle United players are hoping to be involved in Gareth Southgate’s squad, one of which certainly did himself no harm on Monday night.
Kieran Trippier captains England to victory at St James’ Park
Kieran Trippier, who received an incredible reception from the Toon fans in attendance, captained England as they beat Bosnia And Herzegovina 3-0. The £12million man was asked to play at left-back, which is where he could start the Euros later this month.

While it is not his favoured position, Trippier looked comfortable on the left of defence. He was rarely tested, albeit against a Bosna And Herzegovina side that posed little threat.
Regardless, it was a good warmup for England, and an important night for Kieran Trippier.
Trippier reflects on a special night in Newcastle
It was a pretty perfect evening for the Newcastle defender. He was back to full fitness, able to represent his country at his domestic stadium. On top of that, he was given the honour of captaining his country.
And to make matters even better, he was joined by his son Jacob, who got the chance to be mascot. It caps off quite the season for Trippier’s lad, as he also managed to get Kylian Mbappe’s shirt after Paris Saint-Germain’s visit to St James’ Park back in October!
It was a special night for Trippier, and one that he has reflected on via his official Instagram account.
Alongside pictures from the game, he wrote: “A moment il remember for ever leading my country out at my home club @nufc with my son Jacob. Good to get the win now we move to Fridays final warm up game.”
Trippier’s special post prompted a lot of replies from his teammates, both for club and country.
Bruno Guimaraes, who is preparing for the Copa America with Brazil, replied: “Cap.”
Toon teammates Joe Willock and Sven Botman also commented, as they continue their rehabs from injury.
Anthony Gordon, who missed the game due to injury, also sent Trippier a message, writing: “Love it skip.”
There were also messages from Declan Rice and Harry Maguire.
The former commented ‘unreal Tripps’, while the latter added ‘quality’.
It is great to see Trippier receive so much love and support following his special night. He could not have asked for much more, and it is a game that will live long in the memory for him and his family.
