When Fabian Schar left Bruno Fernandes in a heap on the floor on Saturday night, Newcastle United fans gave him no sympathy.
The Manchester United midfielder hit the deck in pain, leading to Kieran Trippier eventually putting the ball out of play so that he could receive treatment – much to the anger of the Newcastle faithful.
By the time he eventually got to his feet, Bruno Fernandes was furious about the incident. He had not even been awarded a free-kick, with replays showing that the referee made a mistake.
There were even calls from Man United fans for Schar to be sent off, such was the severity of the challenge.
And a new report from ESPN has stated that Fernandes felt the same about the 31-year-old’s tackle on him.

Bruno Fernandes thought Fabian Schar should have been sent off for Newcastle
According to ESPN, Bruno Fernandes went into the referee’s office after the game to ask Robert Jones why he decided not to send Fabian Schar off for the challenge in the second half.
The report adds that Man United were not happy and believed that the £3million defender should have been given a red card.
That pretty much sums up where Erik ten Hag’s side are at right now. After such an abject performance, they were more concerned about a refereeing decision rather than their own turgid display.
On reflection, Schar was lucky to escape some kind of punishment. In today’s game, it definitely should have been given as a foul, and there could have been no real complaints if he received a booking for it.
But a red card would have been harsh. It looks much worse on the replay, which is often the case when incidents like that are slowed down.
Given the reputation that Fernandes has, it is no surprise to hear that he was whinging after the full time whistle. But if you are a Man United fan, that is not what you want from your captain after such a rotten performance.
Newcastle absolutely dominated them, with Schar being one of Eddie Howe’s top performers. He was exceptional against Man United, coasting through the game with ease.
