New signing Allan Saint-Maximin hobbled off the pitch at full time in Newcastle United’s friendly with St-Etienne, and Toon fans are already worried it could be something serious.
The new winger impressed supporters almost instantly after coming on for a short cameo at St James’ Park, but the Frenchman ended the game in visible pain.
In the 88th minute, ASM ran through on goal, but as he struck his shot, he was caught by a covering defender.

It looked a substantial knock and Saint-Maximin stayed down, and wasn’t quick to get back to his feet.
The medical team were called onto the pitch, and many of the crowd already had their heads in their hands.
It would have been just Newcastle’s luck if their brand new signing picked up a serious injury in just 24 hours, and Toon fans were fearing the worst.
Thankfully the Frenchman didn’t need to be taken off and saw out the match.
But NUFC fans noticed that the player looked in considerable pain as he left the pitch, leaving them naturally concerned:

Steve Bruce on Saint-Maximin condition
But Newcastle fans need not worry any longer, as manager Steve Bruce was quick to give an update on the new signing.
“He turned over his ankle, but he’s going to be OK.”
This will come as a huge relief to worried supporters, who feared they’d already lost the player to injury.
Unfortunately, the showmanship and flashy nature of Saint-Maximin’s play means he will quite often find himself at threat from frustrated defender’s.
Hopefully the Frenchman will be physically strong enough to cope with the Premier League.
Thankfully though, the winger is relatively unscathed and Newcastle fans can still expect to catch a glimpse of ASM against Arsenal next weekend.
