Newcastle United midfielder Elliot Anderson looks to have finally decided to end the speculation over his international future being eligible for both England and Scotland.
Young Newcastle star, Elliot Anderson has represented both Scotland and England at various levels in his career meaning but hasn’t yet made it into the senior side for either meaning he could still choose where his allegiance lies.
That was until this morning when Steve Clarke announced his latest Scotland squad which includes Anderson for the first time meaning Gareth Southgate‘s hopes of being able to select Anderson in the future have been dashed.
Elliot is eligible for Scotland via his grandfather
Despite being born in Whitley Bay, Anderson was eligible to represent Scotland via his grandparents and that saw him flit between the two nations at youth level.
The irony here is of course that this squad will be the one set to face England next month. Anderson could make his debut against the nation he spurned and could come up against the teammate who recently called him ‘brilliant‘ in Kieran Trippier.

It also seems as if Anderson has replaced Newcastle’s Ryan Fraser in the side who is now on loan at Championship side Southampton.
Newcastle now have another full international in the squad
Fraser always seemed to find his way into the Scotland squad even when he wasn’t playing regularly for Newcastle but it seems that his luck has run out.

As an English man I’d have loved for Anderson to represent England, but as a Newcastle fan it’s just great to see that we have another full international amongst the ranks.
Best of luck to Anderson on his Scotland journey, just as long as he doesn’t pop up to haunt England.
