Brentford ace names Kieran Trippier as one of his best ever teammates

Kieran Trippier is a hero at Newcastle United, and still has the respect of a lot of his former teammates.

That is because current Brentford defender Ben Mee has named Trippier as one of the best players he has ever played with during his career.

Mee appeared on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, providing analysis for Liverpool’s 6-1 win over Leeds United alongside Jamie Carragher.

After the game, the centre-back was asked some questions, with Carragher wanting Mee to name the three best players he has played alongside.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Mee named his three top teammates, and the first player that came to mind was Newcastle United’s number two.

“I’ll go with my mate Kieran Trippier,” he said.

“He’s gone on to have a fantastic career. We grew up at Man City together in the academy, played in the youth cup final together, winning that. Then we went on to Burnley and had a good few years there.

“He’s gone on to be fantastic at Spurs and Atletico Madrid, and now at Newcastle. Fantastic with England so I’ll put him up there.”

The other two players that Mee listed were Steven Defour, who he played with at Burnley, and David Silva, who he briefly shared a pitch with during his time at Manchester City.

Trippier and Mee could have been reunited at Newcastle

Mee has spoke about his past with Trippier, coming through the ranks at Manchester City before really making names for themselves at Burnley. They were important players for Sean Dyche, before Trippier took his game to the next level.

Now the 32-year-old is at St James’ Park, and there was talk that he could have been joined by Mee.

Trippier signed for Newcastle in January 2022, during a transfer window when Mee was also a target for Eddie Howe. His Burnley contract was winding down, and the Magpies were looking for reliable players to boost their survival bid.

Mee would have been just that. He has been an excellent Premier League defender during his career – first with Burnley and now with Brentford.

Of course, Mee did not move to Newcastle and rekindle his friendship with Trippier. He instead suffered relegation with the Clarets before heading to Brentford on a free transfer – where he has been outstanding.

Trippier is also having an outstanding season, and he is regarded as one of the top three players Mee has ever played alongside. Considering that list also includes Man City legend David Silva, it is high praise from the 33-year-old.
