There is a glimmer of hope for those fans who don’t want Allan Saint-Maximin to be sold as the Premier League have included him as part of Newcastle’s squad for the upcoming USA tour.

Okay, so it’s the faintest glimmer of hope, in fact it’s probably just an admin error if anything, but the Premier League tweeted out the squads for the upcoming Premier League Summer Series which will see Newcastle take on Aston Villa, Brighton and Chelsea in the USA.

Listed as a forward in Newcastle’s squad is Allan Saint-Maximin who is edging ever closer to an exit from Newcastle with Al Ahli in talks to sign the enigmatic midfielder.

Saint-Maximin is still listed as part of Newcastle’s squad for the USA Tour

While Saint-Maximin is technically still a Newcastle United player he hasn’t travelled with the squad to the USA today to take part in said tour.

Many things could still go wrong with the potential transfer to Al Hilal and should that happen Saint-Maximin probably will fly out to the States to link up with the team so it makes sense that his name is still on the squad list. That or the lists were drawn up and ready to post before the news of his impending departure broke.

Joelinton‘s name remains on the list too despite the visa issues which at the time of writing are yet to be resolved meaning he hasn’t been able to travel with the squad either.

Should Newcastle’s sale of Saint-Maximin go through it will more than likely see the green light given for Newcastle to sign Harvey Barnes and if the deal is structured in a way that Al Ahli pay up front then it will unlock a lot more spending potential for Newcastle in terms of FFP.

Saint-Maximin has had some fantastic moments but it’s time to move on

Described as ‘breathtaking‘ by Elliot Anderson and ‘unplayable‘ by Frank Lampard, Allan Saint-Maximin has certainly had his moments in a Newcastle shirt and it’s little wonder there’s so much discussion on social media around his potential departure.

He was instrumental in keeping us in the Premier League and that will never be forgotten, but times must change and the club needs to move forward.

It’s a hard pill to swallow for a lot of fans but the sale of Saint-Maximin could kickstart a shopping spree for Newcastle.
