Brazilian media have now delivered their verdict on Bruno Guimaraes’ performance in the friendly win against England yesterday.

The Newcastle midfielder played 78 minutes at Wembley before being substituted for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz and gave a good account of himself before leaving the pitch.

Brazilian newspaper Globo, as well as the public, have now given their match ratings for the South American star who was playing alongside former teammate and Newcastle target Lucas Paqueta.

Brazilian media say Bruno did ‘very well’ vs England

It wasn’t the most thrilling of games with both team’s struggling to create anything of real quality especially in the first half, but it was Brazil who remained patience and waited for England to make a mistake before capitalising.

Bruno played a key role in the game up against one of his Newcastle teammates in Anthony Gordon and was able to control the midfield well in what was just his 19th appearance for the national side.

Known for their particularly critical ratings in the past, Globo were quite pleased with the performance of the 26-year-old giving him a rating of 7.0 while the public were even more impressed with a rating of 7.8.

Bruno completed 87% of his passes in the game as well as creating three chances and winning nine of his 15 ground duels in what was a complete performance in the heart of Brazil’s midfield and a big win against Gareth Southgate’s team.

On Bruno, Globo said: “Responsible for the dynamics in the Seleção’s ball release, he works very well alongside Paquetá. The Lyon duo worked well to create chances and close spaces in the middle.”

Newcastle could really use Bruno’s close friend

It’s been a while since Newcastle were last linked with Bruno’s close friend Paqueta who also played a big role in yesterday’s victory, but the Magpies could really use him right about now.

Paqueta has been playing very well in a West Ham side who are often criticised for the way they play under David Moyes, and if things start to take a turn Newcastle could be ready to pounce for some of their key players.

A move for Paqueta would make complete sense from a black and white perspective as the club would already have a huge bargaining tool in Bruno who had a formidable bond with the West Ham man at Lyon.

It would no doubt prove to be a very costly option, but the Brazilian international is a Premier League proven talent with some excellent technical skills and a point to prove at the top of football still.
