Ryan Fraser has taken an absolute hammering from Bournemouth fans on Twitter following an interview with The Guardian.

The 11-cap Scotland international recently joined us on a free transfer, a move he was free to make having rejected a short-term contract offer from the Cherries before the Premier League restart last term.

Fraser’s contract with Bournemouth ended in June. However, seeing as the season hadn’t yet been completed due to the pandemic, he was offered a short-term deal to see out the campaign.

Despite that offer, the ex-Ipswich man declined as he did not want to jeopardise a summer move elsewhere by potentially getting injured.

In fairness to the attacker, you can see where he’s coming from. At the end of the day, Fraser had to put his career first, and simply couldn’t risk ending up on the scrap-heap as an unemployed footballer recovering from injury.

Naturally, there will also now be question marks over his character. The 26-year-old spent seven years at Bournemouth, but did not want to feature in their battle against relegation. That move would presumably have caused anger regardless, but the fact that the Cherries actually did suffer the drop makes it all the more worse.

There is an argument to be made for both sides of Fraser’s decision.

However, to the surprise of nobody, Bournemouth fans on Twitter don’t see it that way…
