Newcastle United are ‘not a million miles away’ from challenging for the Premier League title.
That is the view of Ben Foster, who has been asked if Newcastle United could be contenders to win the Premier League next season.
The Magpies could finish as high as second this season, with the chance to leapfrog Arsenal with a win on Sunday.

Newcastle will qualify for the Champions League with one more win. If they can get over the line, it truly would be an exceptional season. First, Newcastle won the Carabao Cup. Now they are on the brink of following that up with Champions League qualification.
While Eddie Howe’s objective will be for Newcastle United to replicate this season’s success on a consistent basis, some pundits are suggesting that his team could challenge for the title very soon.

Newcastle United told to make ‘big boy’ signings
In the eyes of Ben Foster, the Magpies are only three signings away from having a team that is capable of challenging for the Premier League.
The former goalkeeper spoke about what is next for Newcastle United on the Football Fill-In podcast.
“No, I think they need to add one in each of forward, midfield and defence,” he said when asked if Newcastle will be in the title race next season.
“They need three big boy signings. They are not a million miles away from it. They are really not.
“Going into next week’s game against Arsenal, I fully expect Newcastle to win the game. I really, really do.”
What Newcastle United want to sign this summer
Foster thinks Newcastle United need three more signings to take them to the next level, which is exactly what they plan to do this summer.
It has been reported that Newcastle want three signings. They could even do more business, but that would be dependent on outgoings.
Newcastle’s three priorities are a right-sided centre-back, a right winger and a goalkeeper. With regards to those positions, it currently appears that their top targets are Marc Guehi, Bryan Mbeumo and James Trafford.
Howe also wants a striker, with Alexander Isak in need of more competition.
Liam Delap has been linked with a £30million move to St James’ Park, but that deal feels unlikely at this stage. Geordie Boot Boys understand that Delap is favouring a move to Manchester United.
