‘Bargain’: PIF now excited by ‘huge earning potential’ at Newcastle – journalist

Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan sees huge earning potential with the club, meaning there is no possibility of Public Investment Fund selling the Magpies in order to buy Manchester United.

That’s according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs on Twitter, who has shared an update on the rumours surrounding the Toon owners eyeing a potential move for the Red Devils.

“There is no possibility PIF will ditch Newcastle to try and buy #MUFC,” he said.

“Saudi Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal has said any KSA interest would come from the private sector. Should it materialise, it will then be ‘supported’ by government entities.

“Newcastle chair Yasir Al-Rumayyan sees huge earning potential at #NUFC. Like #LFC and #MUFC, Newcastle have used the Chelsea sale price as a yardstick. PIF believe their £305m purchase was a bargain, especially given the progress the club have made.

“If #NUFC qualify for the #UCL the club value will have at least doubled in less than two years. And there are some big commercial deals to come, too.”

Jacobs says PIF are happy with Newcastle

With the price that PIF paid to acquire the Tyneside club, it wouldn’t make any sense to cash-in on their investment and proceed to buy Man United.

Bearing in mind the suggestions that Erik ten Hag’s side could be sold for more than £4billion, the £305m Al-Rumayyan bought Newcastle for seems to be an absolute bargain.

The Magpies are currently driving for a place in the Premier League’s top-four and consequent qualification for next season’s Champions League.

With that, huge commercial revenues will emerge as a result, adding even more value to the club’s overall monetary worth.

This highlights parallels with Liverpool and their owners, Fenway Sports Group. Bought for £300m 12 years ago, the Americans are looking to sell the club for over £3billion.

Although an incredible investment for PIF, fans will be hoping Al-Rumayyan and co will be around for even longer as Eddie Howe guides the club back to domestic and continental success.
