Ayoze Perez may have had his best season yet in a black and white shirt, but the Newcastle striker has once again missed out on a call-up to the Spanish national team.

Spain manager Luis Enrique named his squad for La Roja’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifications on Friday, with Perez nowhere to be seen.

The snub comes despite the forward hitting 13 Premier League goals this season, his best return at Newcastle so far.

It will come as a huge blow for Perez, especially given some of the personnel picked ahead of him.

Enrique has picked a forward line focusing on La Liga talent with Alvaro Morata, Iago Aspas, Mikel Oryazabal, Marco Asensio and Rodrigo in the squad.

Of these lucky few, only ex-Liverpool flop Aspas has scored more goals than Perez this season with 16.

Morata meanwhile has had a well documented poor season, and Oryazabal, Asensio and Rodrigo have just 16 goals between them.

It’s undoubtedly frustrating news for Perez, who couldn’t have performed much better this season.

Despite two performances for Spain’s u21 side, he is still yet to make an appearance for the first team.

The Chronicle reported this week that it’s his dream to play for Spain, as well as to one day move back to La Liga.

Unsurprisingly, there’s now fears that such a snub may convince the Spaniard to seek a move away from Newcastle.

However a lot of Newcastle fans believe the forward is naïve to expect such honours.

Despite his goal return, some still question his overall quality and don’t believe he warrants a place in Spain’s squad.

Perez may have silenced his Geordie doubters, but the Spanish ones remain unconvinced.
