Newcastle wouldn’t have won the 2017 Championship title if it hadn’t been for Jack Grealish.

The midfielder scored a last minute equaliser against Brighton on the final day of the season, allowing Newcastle to go above the Seagulls and lift the trophy.

Yes, Jack Grealish was Newcastle’s hero. While the Magpies won 3-0 on the day against Barnsley, it was Grealish’s goal, and Stockdale’s error, which sent the title to St James’ Park.

And on Monday night, Newcastle could face their inadvertent hero for the first time since that Championship campaign. Villa’s talisman has missed the past two games due to injury, but could return on Monday night according to the Mirror.

Will he be cheered by the travelling Toon Army? Probably not. Games against Villa annoyingly have a faux-derby feel to them nowadays so there’s no chance the Newcastle fans in attendance will take time to thank Grealish for his goal two years ago.

The 24-year-old’s return from injury makes Newcastle’s task much harder, as Grealish has been in inspired form since returning to the top flight.

If Steve Bruce’s side can stop him, then they should be able to head back north with a point or three.
