Aston Villa ready to scupper big Newcastle transfer plans

Newcastle United will not be the only ambitious club in the Premier League this summer.

Indeed, even if Newcastle do qualify for the Champions League, there is little in the way of guarantee that would happen again next season.

Such is the competitive nature in the Premier League, it’s going to be a real fight to establish the club as Champions League regulars.

That’s not to say Newcastle can’t do that of course but more can surely be expected of Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea next season, making the battle even more intense.

Aston Villa are another team who pose a threat.

Flying under Unai Emery, the Midlands giants have clear ambition to make a statement and could now rival Newcastle in the transfer market.

Villa keen on Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic

According to InterLive, Villa are ready to move for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

The Croatian star – who broke his own record at the World Cup for distance covered in a game – has been linked with Newcastle.

Still, it seems Emery is now ready to move for the 30-year-old as well as teammate Denzel Dumfries.

Interestingly, the report adds that Brozovic is likely to leave San Siro this summer and that Liverpool have a tentative interest too.

No.6 a huge position for Newcastle this summer

Newcastle do lack a traditional No.6, so it’s easy to see why they might be keen on Brozovic.

Bruno Guimaraes has already admitted he would like to play further forward and both the player and coaching figures at Newcastle are thought to agree he’s been played out of position this season.

To unleash the Brazilian, a more traditional midfield sitter will be needed to replicate the kind of job Jonjo Shelvey did last season, making it a hugely important position this summer.

The competition for Brozovic, however, looks intense.
