The Premier League fixture generator has drawn Newcastle and Arsenal together on the opening day of the season.
Yet again the Magpies will take on one of the Premier League’s top teams on the first weekend of the campaign, and it’s a hat-trick of home games against North London opposition.
But after two consecutive defeats at home to Tottenham, it’s Arsenal who head to St James’ Park.
Newcastle fans expect to face one of the top six on the opening day every season, it’s just one of the certainties of life. At least it gets one of them out of the way early, and the first game of the season can be considered a free hit.
Depending on what happens between now and the start of the season, the atmosphere could either be horrendous or electric at St James’ Park.
But regardless of what happens off the pitch at Newcastle over the summer, we will need to be at our best to get anything against Unai Emery’s side.
We lost twice to the Gunners last season, who finished in fifth place and failed to qualify for the Champions League via the Europa League. So how do Arsenal fans feel about heading to Newcastle on the opening day of the season?
The response is mixed, which is to be expected as you don’t know what you’re going to get from Arsenal. Although some Gunners seem to think they’ll be facing a new Newcastle team. Obviously they know something about the takeover that we don’t…
