Joe Willock has claimed he would be open to staying at Newcastle United.
The midfielder, who is on loan at St. James’ Park from Arsenal until the end of 2020/21, has enjoyed a decent start to life in the North East.
While results have not been particularly good, he personally has caught the eye with some positive displays in the Magpies’ engine room.
He has undoubtedly improved the midfield since his arrival, and a number of fans have already taken to him.
Willock has been speaking about his future, and it seems he would be open to staying at the club beyond his current loan terms.
He said (via Shields Gazette): “I love playing for Newcastle. When I first came here, I was a bit apprehensive of how I would take to it, because I’d never left Arsenal.
“I’d been at Arsenal since I was four and a half, so coming to a new club, coming up north to Newcastle, was a bit scary.
“But as I came here and settled in, and saw the love from the fans that I’m receiving, of course I’d love to continue playing here.”
That playing for Newcastle over the past few weeks has made such an impression on him is actually a little surprising given the results and fiasco with Steve Bruce and Matt Ritchie.
Clearly it’s all about just playing regularly for Willock, which is something he wasn’t doing at Arsenal before his move.
Whether he’d be willing to turn his move permanent if Newcastle got relegated though is another matter.
His latest comments have been picked up by some Arsenal fans on social media, and they have been reacting to what he’s said.
It seems that many would be happy for Willock to depart the Emirates Stadium, but only for a suitable transfer fee.
