Newcastle United play Nottingham Forest in their final Premier League clash before the October international break.

It has been a disappointing start to the season for Newcastle United, who have won only one of their opening six Premier League games.

There is, however, confidence heading into Sunday’s clash at St James’ Park.

Indeed, Eddie Howe’s side beat Union Saint-Gillose 4-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday to boost morale.

Forest, meanwhile, are yet to win a game under new manager Ange Postecoglou and supporters appeared to turn on him during their Europa League loss to FC Midtjylland on Thursday night.

The game was initially scheduled for a Saturday kick-off but, in August, the Premier League announced it would be rescheduled.

Here’s why.

Why Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest was rescheduled

When the Premier League fixtures were first released in June, the game was initially scheduled to take place at 3pm BST on Saturday, 4 October, 2025.

However, in August, a statement on the Newcastle United official website confirmed the game had been moved.

It was selected for television coverage by Sky Sports after it had to be moved back a day due to Forest playing in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The game will kick off at 2pm BST at St James’ Park on Sunday, 5 October, 2025 and will be shown on Sky Sports.

Eddie Howe sends Nottingham Forest message ahead of Newcastle United clash

While the Magpies will be favourites for the game given Forest’s recent struggles, the Newcastle United manager was keen to stress that this won’t be an easy game for his side.

Forest do boast a lot of attacking talent and have a deep squad from which to choose.

Despite their recent form, Howe is expecting a tough game on Tyneside before the second international break of the campaign.

“They have a very strong group of players, a slight change in style, more possession based,” he said.

“A lot of rotation in the attacking areas. They have a good balance to their squad.”
