Newcastle have reportedly now sought explanations about refereeing decision, with several calls going against the club this season.

After Newcastle had lost to City, some will have tuned in to watch Tottenham face Liverpool in the late kick-off.

The game was frenetic, with several controversial incidents just to continue the theme of the day.

Harry Kane should have seen red and Diogo Jota should have got a penalty. Neither decisions were made corrently.

Featuring in the Spurs midfield was Harry Winks, who has recently been linked with Newcastle.

The star lined up alongside Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli in midfield. And he put in a pretty good showing during a chaotic game.

Afterwards, his manager Antonio Conte sang the 25-year-old’s praises, saying (via Sky Sports): “Harry Winks is working very hard. He impressed me in training sessions with his commitment, his will, his desire. I think he is a really good player.” gave Winks a 9/10 for his display, making him Spurs’ best player. They said of him: “Started the game well from the off. His involvement in Kane’s first half goal was crucial with a big sliding challenge in the Liverpool half which won Tottenham the ball back to start the move and whipped up the crowd. Played a couple of perfect balls over the top that set Spurs away on attacks. Another curling pass in the final 15 minutes that led to Son’s equaliser. Played the second half on a yellow card and this was one of his best performances in a long while.”

New lease of life at Tottenham for reported Newcastle target Harry Winks?

It is interesting to see Conte raving about Winks and also referencing his effort in training.

This is a player who, for all the world, looked like he needed a fresh start somewhere else only weeks ago.

Now it seems he may have a role to play under Conte, who clearly likes him.

It could well be that Newcastle’s reported interest won’t ultimately count for anything. Surely Winks would love to stay at his boyhood club if he is going to be playing a bit more regularly.

It may be that Newcastle will have to look at other options.

If Conte likes you, that surely then makes leaving your club more complicated.
