Newcastle United’s newest signing, Anthony Gordon has spoken to about what he hopes to achieve during his time on Tyneside.

Eddie Howe finally got his man in January after a lengthy pursuit of Everton‘s Anthony Gordon, and while he’s still in the “bedding in” phase of life at Newcastle, he’s now told NUFC TV what he hopes to achieve with the club before his initial contract expires.

Talking initially about having to miss out on Newcastle’s first Wembley trip due to being cup-tied, Gordon said: “To see how people were reacting was really, really impressive and shows how big and passionate the fanbase was. But actually getting to the game: I’ve never wanted to win a trophy so much or play in a game. Watching it from where I was sat I was just desperate to get on the pitch.”

Gordon has big plans for his time at Newcastle

Going on later to reiterate his desire to win a trophy, saying: “By the time it will have ran out [his long-term contract] I want to have won a few trophies. Like I said, being at the final really made me want to win a trophy so hopefully we’d have won a few by then. And just being a regular European team, always pushing and trying to get better and pushing them top spots because imagine the fanbase if we got to them levels.”

Fans are desperate to see their new £45million man get a run in the first team after a few teases of what he’s capable of. His lightning pace and quick thinking are attributes that perfectly suit the Eddie Howe style of play, and in his brief cameos since his arrival we have seen flashes of these attributes, but as yet are yet to see them lead to anything meaninful.

It’s unfortunate that Gordon’s arrival has coincided with a run of games where the Mags have struggled in front of goal for whatever reason. Maybe if given more time on the pitch, Gordon could be the key to unlock those floodgates that must be fit to burst by now.

Now’s the time to see what he can do

Newcastle are the lowest scoring team in the league in 2023 with just three goals and fans are calling for Howe to change it up and see Gordon as one of the changes he should be making. Playing him from the start and giving him a full 90 minutes is the only way he can get that match fitness that Howe may feel he’s lacking.

Gordon certainly sounds up for it, let’s unleash him on Wolves on Sunday.
