Anthony Gordon was once again the key man for Newcastle United last night winning the Magpies the decisive penalty.

The debate rages on over whether the penalty won by Anthony Gordon should have been awarded, but the bottom line now is that Newcastle were awarded the spot kick, Callum Wilson despatched it beautifully and the Magpies won.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was unhappy with the decision saying that Anthony Gordon left a leg out to be caught by the goalkeeper. He may have a point, but hey ho, what’s done is done.

Anthony Gordon is now gearing up for Milan

Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon doesn’t appear to be giving it a second thought as he took to X this morning to post a message to fans saying: “That’s more like it. Onto a big week ahead.”

Newcastle, of course, are heading off to Milan to face Sandro Tonali‘s former club, AC Milan at the San Siro in Newcastle’s first Champions League game in 20 years.

There’s no better way to head into a tough fixture like that than with a win, so it didn’t matter how Newcastle got the job done last night it was all about picking up three points and carrying that confidence into Tuesday’s game.

Tonali made the bench for Newcastle yesterday after an injury scare, which suggests that he may be fit enough to play some part on Tuesday.

It’ll be interesting to see how he’s received by his old fans given the backlash he received online following his £55million switch to Tyneside.
