Anthony Gordon has delivered his verdict on Nick Woltemade replacing Alexander Isak at Newcastle United.
Isak, of course, forced a move out of Newcastle United earlier this summer and ended up joining Liverpool for a British record fee.
Woltemade was actually signed before Isak left the club, but it was hard to imagine the two ever actually playing together given all the speculation at that point.
Eddie Howe admits Newcastle can never directly replace Isak, given all his quality.
Still, Woltemade is making a fine start. The German international has scored three goals in six games, which is a fairly remarkable return all things considered.
While Newcastle needed to see a return on their investment reasonably quickly, the fact he’s scoring goals all while the team are adapting to life without Isak is very impressive indeed.
Gordon, however, believes it’s unwise to compare the two.

Anthony Gordon reacts to Newcastle replacing Alexander Isak with Nick Woltemade
The winger was speaking after Newcastle’s 4-0 victory against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Gordon bagged a brace from the penalty spot in Brussels, after Woltemade had opened the scoring with a clever flick from Sandro Tonali’s cross.
Asked about Woltemade and Isak, Gordon said (via The Northern Echo): “They’re two completely different players so it’s going to take us time to get used to his style of play.
“I think it’s the first time the front three have all started together, so I think people need to give us time to gel and get to know each other’s games.
“I thought Nick was top to be honest, the way he held the ball up under constant pressure. His hold up play, his link-up play, he’s a pleasure to play with.”
Nick Woltemade is already creating his own legacy at Newcastle United
The positive news is that Newcastle United’s most expensive signing in history is already creating his own legacy.
Whether he ever goes on to replicate what Isak did is irrelevant at this stage.
All he can do is score goals when called upon and, to his credit, that’s exactly what the former Stuttgart star is doing.
Indeed, Woltemade is already breaking records at Newcastle.
On Wednesday, he became the first Toon player to score on both his Premier League and Champions League debut for the club.
