Roma manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that one Newcastle United man has really impressed him during the Magpies’ recent games
The former Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham boss had lots of praise for Eddie Howe this week with the Newcastle boss punching well above his weight yet again this season.
Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mourinho claimed that Howe is doing an ‘amazing’ job at Newcastle but added that he was not jealous of him at all for the game against PSG last month.
Mourinho admires what Howe is doing in the North East
For such a prestigious manager and one of the greatest to ever do it to say that he’s been amazed by the job that Howe is doing is some of the highest praise you can receive.
Football may be starting to move on without the 60-year-old who does seem stuck in his ways, but what he’s achieved in the game can never be underestimated and Howe will no doubt look up to Mourinho, hoping to be as successful at Newcastle as he was in his career.
The 60-year-old also claimed that he was glad that he wasn’t Newcastle manager against PSG when the French giants received that controversial last-minute penalty which ultimately knocked Newcastle out of Europe.
Mourinho is known for his antics towards the referees on the sidelines and it certainly would have been interesting to see the contrast between how he and Howe handled the same scenario.
On Newcastle, Mourinho said: “Amazing job. I am very happy that I was not Newcastle manager in the Paris match!”

Mourinho has often been linked to the job on Tyneside
When the Saudi-backed takeover was first completed there were a lot of rumours linking Newcastle to some big name managers and Mourinho was right at the very top of that list.
Because of his connection with Sir Bobby Robson, Mourinho has a lot of admiration for Newcastle and has quite often been linked with the managerial position, even now while Howe is still in charge and doing well.
There’s a belief that Newcastle need an elite manager to take them to the next level after Howe leaves, but it’s been a while now since Mourinho really achieved something special in the game.
The iconic manager has also caused a lot of controversy wherever he goes which wouldn’t be ideal for how the current ownership want to run things, but one thing is for certain and that is he’s a born winner.
