Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley has claimed that the club are exploring an exciting plan that could see huge improvements in their academy.
Over the last couple of decades Newcastle’s academy has been heavily neglected with only a couple of names coming into the first team, but the new owners have placed a huge emphasis on turning that around.
Speaking in Saudi Arabia at the Bloomberg Power Players’ summit, Staveley shared how Newcastle have been working on a multi-club model with teams in Belgium, Brazil, Australia and Asia.
Staveley wants to make Newcastle’s academy world class
The best clubs around the world all have brilliant academies, and Newcastle are hoping to follow in their footsteps by developing their own and sourcing the best young talent in football.
Looking at how Man City have developed into a powerhouse, they too placed a huge emphasis on youth and have been able to bring through the likes of Phil Foden, Ricoh Lewis and Oscar Bobb in the current team.
Newcastle themselves have indirectly benefitted from City’s academy with Kieran Trippier initially coming through their ranks back in 2009 and they’ll be hoping to bring through similar talents in the very near future.
Staveley and the other owners have huge plans for Newcastle’s future and finding a new club to be part of a multi-club group is high up on the list of priorities, hoping to emulate the City Group who have 13 clubs.
On Newcastle’s academy, Staveley said: “I’m still a very big fan of the multi-club model. A lot of other competitors and friends in the Premier League have multi-club relationships, but it has to be considered as a whole.”
“We have looked at Belgium, we have looked at a lot of European markets. We have looked in Asia, Australia, Brazil – pretty much everywhere.
“We have look at every market to see and getting players through our academy system and through that multi-club model would be very helpful in terms of allowing us to buy and have players part of our journey earlier on.”

Newcastle already have an exciting young squad
While most did not come through the academy, Newcastle already have an exciting young squad and it’s clear that they’re looking to build a strong team for the future.
The likes of Anthony Gordon, Joe Willock and Alexander Isak are already key members of the squad and are all 24-years-old or younger.
They also have Sandro Tonali to come in to the team after his ban who is still just 23 and already has so much experience in the Champions League and in the first team with AC Milan.
That’s without mentioning the likes of Yankuba Minteh who is enjoying a loan spell at Feyenoord, Lewis Hall who hasn’t played much but has huge potential and Tino Livramento who has looked quality every time he’s played for Newcastle.
