Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley sent the team a brilliant message after their derby victory against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.
It was one of the best days in recent memory for Newcastle fans, up there with thrashing PSG 4-1 in the Champions League and taking their first trip to the new Wembley back in February.
Both Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi were there for the game and afterwards she posted on Instagram to send the team a message of how proud she was of them for the performance.
Staveley was ‘beyond proud’ of the Newcastle team
Newcastle fans had almost forgotten what it was like to beat Sunderland, in fact there will have been a whole generation of Geordies who had grown up without experiencing a victory in a derby with the last win coming in 2011.
Not only was it great to build their confidence back up after a dreadful run of games, the team are now also in the FA Cup fourth round and will truly believe that they can go all the way this year.
Eddie Howe got everything absolutely spot with his preparation for the game as none of the squad looked to be phased by the occasion, something that playing in huge games in Europe would certainly have helped them with yesterday.
Staveley could not contain her excitement over the result as she took to social media to let the players know just how proud she was of them all, and how brilliantly they had played.
On Instagram, Staveley said: “An unbelievable game today. Outstanding performance from the whole team. I am beyond proud.”

Newcastle now need a big January window
A win against Sunderland was definitely a huge result for what is left of Newcastle’s season, but Staveley and co now need to decide how they’re going to attack this transfer window.
There’s been many rumours suggesting that there isn’t a lot to spend at all and that they’re waiting for players to return from injury, but that hasn’t exactly worked out well for them so far this season.
Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, but it’s also understood that they’re unwilling to pay the loan fee, which is quite worrying for Toon fans.
If they have hopes of reaching Europe for a second successive campaign, Newcastle’s owners cannot afford to not invest at least a little bit into the squad this month.
