Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley has hailed the impact of Eddie Howe at the club, while aiming a dig at previous boss Steve Bruce.

The Magpies are really on the up in 2022, and are currently on a run of eight games without defeat. Newcastle haven’t lost in the Premier League since December 19th, and are now seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Howe has done a remarkable job to get Newcastle out of the bottom three, and deserves so much credit when you consider where we were when he took over.

The 44-year-old was appointed as manager on November 8th, and Staveley has described Howe as ‘extraordinary’.

The Toon co-owner spoke to the Daily Mail at the North East Football Writers’ Association awards on Sunday, and discussed how the new manager has changed Newcastle for the better.

“He’s just been extraordinary. You’ve got to remember that when he took over the team wasn’t fit,” Staveley said, as reported by the Daily Mail.

“It really feels now we’ve got proper, decent momentum. But we’ve got a long way to go. We mustn’t take our eye off the ball. We’re very proud of the team and the fans that have been so incredibly supportive.”

‘Extraordinary’ Howe puts Bruce to shame

Staveley isn’t the first person to point to the fact Newcastle weren’t fit at the start of the season.

Fans could see it in the early weeks. We would start fast, but massively tail off later in the game. It happened against West Ham on the opening day of the season, and it happened against Tottenham too – the first game after the takeover.

Bruce was relieved of his duties on October 22nd. Since then, multiple players have made remarks about the previous regime.

Callum Wilson admitted that Newcastle weren’t fit enough, and Kieran Trippier said he had heard the same from his new teammates.

Now Staveley joins the list of Toon figures publicly admitting that the team weren’t fit enough under the previous manager.

You can talk style of football and tactics all you want, but for your team not to be fit enough is unforgiveable. It’s no wonder we were staring relegation in the face under Bruce this season.

Luckily, the new ownership made the change required. They removed Bruce, and brought in Howe. Now the club looks on course for Premier League survival.

Howe has done an ‘extraordinary’ job as Staveley says, fixing the problems Bruce and the previous regime had created.
