Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi were both at Wembley to watch Newcastle United lift the Carabao Cup.
The couple were at the forefront of the PIF takeover of Newcastle United in 2021 and four years later their project brought a trophy back to St James’ Park.
Staveley wanted to buy Newcastle in 2017 after watching the side in action against Liverpool at St James’ Park. It was the same side that Newcastle beat at Wembley this month to end their 70-year wait for silverware.
Despite being adored by the Newcastle fanbase, Staveley and Ghodoussi sold their shares last year with PIF and Jamie Reuben improving their stake in the club.

Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi’s ‘best decision’
When Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi made the gamble to purchase Newcastle from Mike Ashley, the Magpies were scrapping to survive in the Premier League.
It was inevitable that Steve Bruce would be sacked as manager, and it was down to Staveley and Ghodoussi to help select his successor – a huge decision, and one they got spot on.
In a recent interview with ITV, they explained that hiring Eddie Howe was their “best decision” as owners.
Ghodoussi said: “It was the best decision we could have made. It was a collective decision – as a consortium, as shareholders, we all came to that direction.
“We obviously interviewed a lot of managers but that funnel effect took it to Eddie in the end, which was amazing.”
Staveley then added: “The joy of having to work with someone who is so professional, so passionate and really unique in what he does – Eddie was just extraordinary.”
Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi were told to snub Eddie Howe
Howe has become a Newcastle legend for bringing the Carabao Cup back to Tyneside and he was blown away by the adoration he received in the recent trophy parade.
However, things were nearly very different for Newcastle as Staveley was warned against hiring Howe back in 2021.

Bruce had recommended Steven Gerrard and Howe as managerial candidates, and thankfully Newcastle’s ownership got the decision right.
Thankfully, Howe wants to stay at Newcastle and take the Magpies to the top. Having made them cup winners, he’s certainly on track.
