With no new arrivals yet, transfer talk at Newcastle has dramatically increased in the last 24 hours.
But there are two players we have been linked with that could be key to survival: Miguel Almiron and Gelson Martins.

The Chronicle reported yesterday that Newcastle’s offer for Almiron is still on the table, while they also stated that the Magpies have opened talks with Atletico Madrid for Martins.
Almiron and Martins could make the difference
These are two attacking players that would walk straight into Newcastle’s starting XI. Rafa Benitez’s side have been weak offensively this season, with a lack of investment stifling Newcastle’s attack.
But the arrival of Almiron and Martins would add much-needed creativity to a side that is solid at the back. The Magpies can stay in games, but often haven’t had the attacking credentials to match opponents. This has resulted in a lot of narrow defeats, notably to teams competing near the top of the division.

This pair would potentially change this. While it’s very possible that neither player arrives, Almiron and Martins would give Newcastle a massive boost in the quest for survival.
Hopefully it is not a case of one or the other. We need both players as our squad is already light enough as it is. Bringing in both players would certainly be a statement of intent, which could help keep Benitez at the club beyond the end of the season.

There are three scenarios. In a dream situation, we sign both players and fans can get somewhat excited. Option two is we only sign one, which would still boost Benitez’s squad. Option three, sadly the most realistic for fans, is that neither arrive.
The ball is in your court, Mr Ashley.
