TalkSPORT presenter Ally McCoist has claimed that the Newcastle United supporter who argued with Kieran Tripper after defeat to Bournemouth will have been in the minority of fans.
Newcastle fell to a disappointing 2-0 loss against Bournemouth which prompted one fan to question Trippier over the efforts and attitude of the squad.
McCoist has now shared his view on the matter and claimed that this supporter will not represent the views of the entire fanbase who can recognise where the club has come from in recent years.
It was only two years ago that Newcastle looked destined for relegation, so sitting in seventh and playing Champions League football can’t be all that bad.
McCoist claims Newcastle fans are loving every minute
Football fans can certainly be very fickle at times. One bad result or long-term injury and there will be demands for something to change or for someone to be replaced.
Following the defeat to Bournemouth, however, the majority of Newcastle fans kept a level head and were understanding about the number of injuries and level of fatigue in the squad.
That’s why it is so disappointing to see one fan, who in the heat of the moment criticised Kieran Trippier for the lack of effort, grabbing all the headlines.
Ally McCoist is absolutely spot on when he suggested that this is a view held by a minority of Newcastle supporters.
Speaking on talkSPORT McCoist said: “I would suggest that that fan is in the minority. Yes they’ll be disappointed about the result at the weekend, but where they’ve come from, where they are, come on.
“Having been up there a few times, the vast majority of Newcastle fans know where they are they’re loving every minute of it.
“There’s going to be ups and downs but that’s what the majority of them will expect.”

Newcastle are still fighting on four fronts
Given the pessimism currently surrounding the club because of injuries and two successive defeats, it’s easy to forget that Newcastle are still in with a shout of exceeding expectations in all four competitions.
It is actually even more impressive that compared to this stage last year, Newcastle are only one point off of their points tally and, when directly comparing fixtures, have actually improved by two points.
The Magpies have also got a very exciting young core that are only going to improve, so the future is still looking very bright for Newcastle.
With a Carabao Cup quarter final and two crucial Champions League games also on the horizon, it’s difficult to see how any Newcastle supporter can feel aggrieved with the season so far.
