TalkSPORT presenter Ally McCoist has now made a bold prediction on when he thinks Newcastle United will end their long wait for a trophy.
It’s been 54 years since Newcastle triumphed in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and 68 years sine their last FA Cup victory.
McCoist, however, is now claiming that the Magpies look more ready than ever to end their silverware drought in the next few years.
Newcastle had the chance to win the Carabao Cup last year but were unfortunate to come up against an in-form Manchester United team who appear to have been in a downward spiral ever since.
McCoist predicts Newcastle’s next trophy
Though they are currently bottom of Group F in the Champions League, Newcastle are still fighting on four fronts this season and will be hoping to go far in all competitions.
Eddie Howe’s men will play against Chelsea next month in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, a tournament they came so close to winning last season.
Prior to that they will face PSG and AC Milan where they will surely have to pick up at least four points, more likely six, if they are to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.
McCoist spoke on talkSPORT about when he thinks Newcastle will lift a trophy and end the drought: “I think they’ll win a cup within the next couple of seasons.
“I think the place is buzzing, I’m genuinely pleased for the Newcastle fans.
“You’re up against serious favouritism in Manchester City, and Liverpool are next favourites. But I think it’s only a matter of time for Newcastle.”

Injuries could hold Newcastle back
Newcastle were without 12 players when they took on Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday and will now be without Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson for their trip to Bournemouth this weekend.
While Howe would like to play his strongest 11 in every game, he’s going to have to manage this squad very carefully over the next few months.
The Premier League will likely be his priority which could mean fielding a weakened side for the Carabao Cup clash against Chelsea. We’ve already seen two rotated teams against Manchester City and Manchester United, though this is now getting to the business end of the competition.
After a bitter defeat to the Red Devils in last years final, the squad will be itching to get that first piece of silverware and immortalise themselves in the club’s history.
