Allan Saint-Maximin did not recover in time for Newcastle United’s game against Tottenham Hotspur, but he now appears to be nearing a comeback.
Ahead of Newcastle‘s game against Spurs, Eddie Howe confirmed that Saint-Maximin would not be involved. That was because he was still in France, working on his recovery after picking up a hamstring problem.
It was a shame on the eve of a huge game, but we did not miss the Frenchman. We were exceptional without ASM, with Howe’s side blitzing Spurs to win 6-1 and cement their place in the top four.
The Magpies are edging closer to Champions League football, and now Saint-Maximin is edging closer to a return.
Allan Saint-Maximin back in Newcastle after injury
Ahead of the game against Spurs, Howe stated that Maxi was due back from France this week. That has already proven to be the case.

He has posted a picture on his Instagram story of him inside Newcastle United’s training ground. He is back on Tyneside, which is a big boost as he nears a comeback from his latest injury.
Howe has already stated that Thursday’s game against Everton might come too soon, but hopefully he is ready for the weekend clash with Southampton. We are at home at 2pm on Sunday once again, with the Saints heading to St James’ Park. We have already played them three times this season, winning each fixture.
Newcastle’s attack was extremely fluid without Saint-Maximin on Sunday, but not every game is going to be like that. There are going to be tight matches where we need someone who can create something out of nothing, and that is exactly what ASM is capable of.
He was playing very well before his injury, and it is excellent to see he is almost able to feature once again. The 26-year-old needs a strong end to the season, as rumours surrounding his future continue to swirl.
