Newcastle United’s great form in the Premier League continued last night with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United.
The Magpies are up to 42 points now from 37 games, and it was Joe Willock who got the goal once again for Steve Bruce’s side.
It was the sixth game in row the midfielder has found the back of the net.
That makes him the youngest player ever to achieve the feat in the Premier League.
While Willock is grabbing the headlines today, it was another fantastic performance from Allan Saint-Maximin, who teased and tormented the Blades’ defence at times.
The Frencham was truly in the mood, and always sought to drive into the penalty area.
An amazing statistic has emerged from last night that puts Saint-Maximin’s performance into a bit of context.
According to Opta, he completed 15 dribbles, which is the joint-most by any player in any game across the top five leagues in Europe.
The other player to get 15 in a game, was none other than Lionel Messi (against Celta Vigo).
Remarkably, Saint-Maximin went off injured with around 20 minutes to go, meaning there was plenty of time for him to smash the record.
15 completed dribbles in just 70 minutes is absolutely superb from Saint-Maximin.
Everyone knows what he is all about, but it just shows how hard it is for players to do anything about him when he’s in full flow.
Hopefully Newcastle can retain the services of this potentially very special player beyond the summer – it would be no surprise to see a few teams come knocking.
