Allan Saint-Maximin produced some exciting moments for the club during a largely difficult time for Newcastle United.
The Frenchman may have left St James’ Park in the 2023 summer transfer window but he is still fondly remembered on Tyneside.
He joined the club in August 2019 and delivered some hope in a fairly negative atmosphere after Steve Bruce was named the club’s manager.
Saint-Maximin helped the club survive the threat of relegation under Bruce and was a vital part of the Newcastle side that finished in the top four during their memorable 2022/23 campaign.
The tricky winger was one of several players to move from England’s top flight to the Saudi Pro League, but his stay in Saudi Arabia could be cut short.
Fenerbache closing on Saint-Maximin’s signature

Reports from Turkey state the former Newcastle winger is ‘very close’ to signing for Fenerbache.
Saint-Maximin made 31 appearances in all competitions for Al-Ahli, scoring four goals and assisting 10.
Fenerbache have identified Saint-Maximin as someone who will undoubtedly excite their passionate supporters, in their attempts to win the league for the first time in 10 years.
Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the club would have naturally raised expectations of winning their 29th league title next season.
The chance to work with an elite manager in Mourinho is a huge opportunity for Saint-Maximin and one that may be too difficult to turn down.
Eddie Howe enjoyed working with Saint-Maximin during his time on Tyneside
The Newcastle manager was reluctant to sell the pacey winger, who offered Newcastle some unpredictability. But the club had to appease the Premier League’s financial rules, and the sale of Saint-Maximin was considered a good deal for all parties.
Eddie Howe often praised Saint-Maximin even in the weeks and months following his departure. The Newcastle manager described Saint-Maximin as a ‘maverick’ during an interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap.
There was obvious mutual respect between the pair, and as with many on Tyneside, Howe will be watching on with interest should Saint-Maximin’s move to Fenerbache be confirmed.
