Allan Saint-Maximin may no longer be a Newcastle United player but he’s still very connected to the club and he offered up his simple seal of approval as Newcastle confirmed their squad numbers for the new season.
There has bit a bit of a shift-around with the squad numbers at Newcastle this summer following the arrival of Sandro Tonali and the departure of Allan Saint-Maximin.
In order for Tonali to play in his preferred number eight shirt, Anthony Gordon would have to relinquish that number first. After the number eight became vacant following the sale of Jonjo Shelvey in January to Nottingham Forest, it was given to the £45million arrival from Everton.
Anthony Gordon has taken the number 10 from Allan Saint-Maximin
Gordon has now given up the number eight to Tonali and stepped in to fill the void left in the number 10 shirt formerly worn by fan-favourite Allan Saint-Maximin and it seem that the man himself approves.
Anthony Gordon shared his press photo of him proudly donning his new number on Twitter/X and Allan Saint-Maximin replied with a white heart emoji.

Saint-Maximin wasted no time introducing himself to the Al Ahli fans last week scoring on his debut for the Saudi side. But away from the pitch he has continued to interact with his former teammates via social media as touching messages flooded in from the likes of Joe Willock.
If Gordon can get his shooting sorted he’s going to be huge for Newcastle
With the change in shirt numbers I feel like the number 10 suits Gordon better. He has no real fixed role due to his versatility, one minute he’s running down the wing the next he’s through the middle, and in the case of the game against Fiorentina yesterday, the next minute he’s spurning chances.

If Gordon can get his shooting reined in as soon as possible then he’s going to be a massive threat this season. He already looks super sharp and always ready to create something for the side, but his shooting definitely needs to be worked on.
