Alexander Isak trains for Newcastle as Callum Wilson suffers World Cup injury

On the same day that Alexander Isak was pictured back in training for Newcastle United, Callum Wilson has suffered an injury scare.

The 30-year-old is currently in Qatar for the World Cup with England, where the Three Lions are now preparing for Saturday night’s Quarter Final against France.

Gareth Southgate’s side beat Senegal 3-0 on Sunday, easing into the next round. However, Newcastle’s England representatives failed to feature for the first time in the tournament.

Now a worrying update has emerged surrounding Callum Wilson.

Wilson suffers injury scare at the World Cup

The England players who did not start against Senegal trained on Monday, but Wilson was not involved. The 30-year-old was absent due to a muscle strain, sitting out the session as a precaution.

Precaution or not, this will have Newcastle fans very concerned. Wilson does not have a good record with injuries, and has already missed four Premier League games this season due to a hamstring problem.

With domestic football set to resume on December 21st, Eddie Howe will be praying that Wilson is not set for another spell on the sidelines.

That would be a real blow, especially given how well he has played this season. It would also be a blow for England, with Wilson playing well in his two substitute appearances so far.

Hopefully we see Wilson return to training this week and he is available for selection against France on Saturday.

The Newcastle players who are not at the World Cup have travelled to Riyadh for a warm weather training camp. They will play a friendly over there too, facing Al-Hilal on Thursday evening.

Everyone bar Dan Burn is in Riyadh right now, with the defender set to link up with the group soon. He didn’t travel on Sunday due to illness but is going to be on his way to Saudi Arabia.

Howe is putting his players through their paces, while the injured stars continue their rehabilitation.

That includes Isak, who hasn’t played for Newcastle since September 17th. He has since been out of action with a thigh problem, but is nearing a return.

The 23-year-old is training in Riyadh, and has been pictured working alongside Matt Ritchie, who has also been out with injury.

This is an important trip for Isak, as he looks to return to full fitness and get his Newcastle career properly going. And it is even more important that he returns after Wilson’s latest injury scare.
