Alexander Isak has shown in pre-season that he’s ready for Newcastle United’s Premier League campaign grabbing a couple of goals and providing assists.
Newcastle‘s record signing, Alexander Isak blew everyone’s minds last season with a run down the wing against Everton that had the Toffees defence questioning their careers before he put in a ball that found its way to Jacob Murphy to slot home.
In pre-season Isak has shown time and time again that it was no fluke. In the Sela Cup game against Fiorentina yesterday Isak had the Italian side’s defence turned inside out every time he got the ball.
Isak assisted and scored in Newcastle’s clash with Fiorentina yesterday
Isak’s efforts were rewarded in the first half when his close control pulled in defenders towards him giving Miguel Almiron space to run into. Isak laid the ball off for Almiron who duly provided the finish to make it 1-0.
In the second half Isak got himself on the scoresheet rising like a salmon to nod home a Kieran Trippier corner.

Speaking to NUFC TV after the game, Isak was asked if they work on those fast transitions in training, the likes of which saw Almiron grab his goal. Isak said: “We know it’s a weapon for us we have fast players so and when we get the chance we should really attack that’s what I did. I just turned and went at them and Miggy made a good run as well.”
Isak exudes a level of calmness and confidence we’ve not seen before
Isak was exuding his usual coolness that masks his almost arrogant confidence, like he knows how good he is and he can’t help letting you know that he knows. I love it.

Later in the interview Isak spoke of the threat the team carries saying: “We have a lot of quality and I think we need to find a way to maximise that to get the best out of everyone because then we’ll be very dangerous.”
I’ve backed Isak to be in the running for the Golden Boot this year and given how he’s looked in pre-season it may not be as wild of a thought as some people think. Even if he doesn’t score as many as I expect, he’ll be up there for assists.
