Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has praised Isaac Hayden after his brilliant performance against Southampton at the weekend.
The 25-year-old was excellent against the Saints operating as a makeshift centre-half, and was undoubtedly key to the Magpies getting three points.

Hayden has been showered with compliments for his contributions since the weekend, and now praise has arrived in the form of Shearer.
The Toon legend included the star in his latest Premier League Team of the Week, along with Joe Willock and Miguel Almiron, who got the all-important goals in Saturday.
Of Hayden, Shearer said (official Premier League): “The midfielder is doing a superb job filling in in an unfamiliar role at centre-half.”
It was the sixth time this season in the Premier League that Hayden has now featured as a centre-half.
Given Federico Fernandez, Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark are all struggling for fitness at the moment, it likely won’t be the last time.
Hayden on track to become Newcastle POTS?
Hayden has been in great form this season despite the collective struggles of the team.

The £1.5 million star (Chronicle) always gives his all, and is proving how invaluable he is filling in at centre-half.
Callum Wilson’s goals are obviously vital to Newcastle’s cause, but Hayden sustaining this level through to the end of the season could well earn him the club’s Player of the Season gong.
