Newcastle United’s comeback victory against Burnley at the weekend was always likely to lead to Alan Shearer putting one or two Magpies in his Premier League Team of the Week.
And the legend has not disappointed.
Allan Saint-Maximin has unsurprisingly got a nod from the Match of the Day pundit for the way he changed the game on Sunday.
The French maverick provided an assist for Jacob Murphy, before scoring a lovely solo goal.
Shearer said of him: “A goal and an assist. Welcome back. He changed and won the game for Newcastle United when he came on.”
Also making it in was Martin Dubravka, who produced a fantastic display between the sticks.
The Clarets really threw the kitchen sink at Newcastle in the second-half, but Dubravka was equal to everything and was very impressive in dealing with balls into the box.
On him, Shearer said: “He was outstanding, making a crucial save when his team were 1-0 down and helping his defenders handle Burnley’s crosses.”
Newcastle need best players to keep delivering
If Newcastle’s best players can continue to deliver performances like Saint-Maximin and Dubravka gave against Burnley, then relegation fears will quickly dissipate.
Newcastle have some tremendous quality in their ranks.
Ultimately, it’s on the top players to drag the club away from danger.
