Alan Pardew has given his verdict on whether or not the Newcastle United owners should sack Eddie Howe as manager.

The Toon boss is suddenly facing up to a lot of questions following his side’s latest defeat on Sunday. Newcastle United were beaten 3-1 by Brentford, as they dropped down to 14th in the Premier League table.

Newcastle’s performance was worrying, with Eddie Howe coming under a bit of pressure following his side’s third consecutive away defeat.

The Magpies have been massively inconsistent all season, which has now resulted in some Toon fans online pondering whether a change of manager is required.

Alan Pardew jumps to Eddie Howe’s defence

However, that suggestion has been batted off by former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew.

He spoke about Howe’s future at St James’ Park on TalkSPORT on Sunday night, insisting that PIF absolutely must stick with their current manager to turn the club’s fortunes around.

“When I look at his team, Joelinton, Tonali and Guimaraes, what a midfield that is,” he said.

“Murphy was absolutely brilliant last year. Barnes got a goal this week. They’ve got the big fella [Nick Woltemade] who they signed. It does look, on paper, a good team. Goalkeeper is a position they’ve struggled in this year. I am still surprised the column for wins is not greater.

“I do think Eddie has enough in the locker. He proved that by winning the cup. I do hope he improves on the situation. He certainly has enough in that changing room.

“My opinion is stick with Eddie and let’s see where we go.”

PIF would be crazy to sack Eddie Howe as Newcastle United manager

The situation will have to become a lot more drastic for PIF to act.

Geordie Boot Boys recently reported that PIF only want Eddie Howe as Newcastle United manager, and that stance will not have changed despite Sunday’s frustrating defeat to Brentford.

After four years at St James’ Park, Howe has so much credit in the bank. The club would not be where it is today without him, especially given the chaos that has been going on behind the scenes since PIF became the Newcastle United owners.

While there has been plenty of turmoil above him, Howe has been the one constant. He has taken the Magpies on a journey, and this is far from the end.

Throughout their ownership, PIF have been process-driven. They do not make kneejerk decisions. They take their time and act logically, which is why Howe’s role is very much secure right now.

Results obviously need to improve, but Howe has the capabilities to bring about that improvement. His track-record proves as much, and he will be desperate for this international break to end so he can put an end to this rotten run of form.
