Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe was nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Month this week. The Magpies picked up 10 points from a possible 12 over the month of February.

The boss was asked about being shortlisted for the award and responded in a very humble way, via the club’s Twitter page.

Howe said: “I haven’t given it too much thought because my focus has been on this game but I will say that any type of accolade is a real statement for the staff and the players, not just one person. It’s very much a collective effort.”

Howe’s reponse will remind some Newcastle supporters of another fan favourite

The modest reply from Howe will remind many fans of when former boss Rafael Benitez won his award for November back in 2018.

Benitez’s side won all their games that month against Watford, Bournemouth and Burnley. The Spaniard took photos of himself with the award but also made sure there were photos with his staff too.

Both Howe and Benitez clearly value the managerial effort of managing Newcastle as a team effort. With that modest approach to managing a team, it’s no wonder they’ve both endeared themselves to many fans.

The Magpies are unbeaten in 2022 and will look to extend that run as they take on Brighton this weekend. Additionally, they currently have conceded the least league goals this calendar year alongside Liverpool, both with 3 conceded.

What makes this even more impressive is the likes of Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin have missed games in that time. Displaying how much more belief there is in the Newcastle camp.

Their opponents are currently suffering a dip in form. But Brighton is currently sitting in 10th place in the Premier League. But the Toon will be full of confidence due to their form and strong individual performances across the pitch.

A win would move them within 5 points of the Seagulls as they continue to push away from the relegation zone. St James’ Park as ever will be rocking as they look to take all three points.
