Newcastle United’s first official summer signing Yankuba Minteh was loaned out immediately to Eredivisie champions Feyenoord where he’s had an amazing start to the season.

Gambian forward Yankuba Minteh was snapped up by Newcastle for £7million from Danish side Odense Boldklub and was then loaned to Eredivisie champions Feyenoord for this season.

Newcastle fans have been keeping an eye on Minteh’s progress since he moved to the Netherlands and it’s safe to say they’re excited to see what he will bring to the club when he returns.

Minteh has already scored two goals for Feyenoord this season

Minteh scored on his Feyenoord debut in a friendly when manager Arne Slot was head bellowing from the sidelines to let Minteh take it.

Now five games into the Eredivisie season, Minteh already has two goals and an assist.

The latest goal and the assist came in yesterday’s 6-1 demolition of Heerenveen with the goal coming just five minutes after his introduction from off the bench.

It’s all the more special considering what Minteh had gone through while on international duty.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Arne Slot mentioned that Minteh had been caught up in the devastating earthquake that hit Marrakesh.

Newcastle will want to keep hold of Minteh next year

VotebalPrimeur in Holland reported that Slot had told reporters he was initially unaware that Minteh was in Morocco when the earthquake hit saying: “I was told later, I am unable to visit all fifteen international players individually to ask how it was. I was under the impression that he was happy because he had scored an important goal and qualified for the Africa Cup.”

The report also says that Minteh himself didn’t even bring it to Slot’s attention. He just got on with his football.

If Minteh keeps impressing the way he has I suspect he’ll not be loaned out again next year and will be given his chance in the Newcastle side.
