One Newcastle United player is understood to be considering his future at the club but could soon be offered a new deal.
In a January window in which several Newcastle players have been linked with moves away, Martin Dubravka has now thrown another spanner in the works for this summer.
In a report from the i, Dubravka’s agent claimed that he will see out the rest of the season at Newcastle and will consider his options after the Euros, but he wouldn’t be surprised if he was offered a contract extension.
Newcastle may have goalkeeping crisis in the summer
Newcastle suffered a big blow when Nick Pope sustained a serious shoulder injury against Manchester United which is set to keep him out for the majority of the season.
However, it did allow for Dubravka to step up once again and show that he’s still got the ability to be a starting goalkeeper for a top team, and after his recent performances it’s unlikely he will want to go back to being second choice.
Speaking to the i, his agent, David Zika, said: “I dare say that he will finish this season in Newcastle. I personally think, and we talked about it with Martin, that now he has excellent ‘timing’ for everything.
“He’s playing, he’s getting better and better in every game and then the European Championships will come and he’ll only have a year left on his contract.
“If he plays well in the Euros in Germany, he can get into an excellent position. I can imagine that Newcastle will offer him a contract extension for a year or two.
“In England, goalkeepers mature like wine and their loyalty is viewed very positively. However, we wouldn’t rule out that he will want to look somewhere else.”
Should Newcastle lose Dubravka, they would be solely left with Pope as their only option in goal with both Loris Karius and Mark Gillespie’s contracts set to expire at the end of June.
If neither sign extensions, which is a very real possibility, Newcastle will have to enter the market for a new shot-stopper, one who is happy to play second fiddle to Pope who is likely to be starting again next season.

Dubravka will be key for Newcastle in the next six months
In what could be his final season for the club, Dubravka is going to have to be at the very top of his game not only for his own personal reasons, but to help the club get back up amongst the top teams in the Premier League.
Although it’s not entirely his fault, Newcastle currently sit 10th in the table having lost four straight games and there’s been a few moments that Dubravka would probably like to forget.
However, some great displays against Liverpool and Sunderland look to have instilled some confidence back into the Slovakian international who signed for Newcastle five years ago for just £4m.
If Newcastle are to have any hopes of European football for next season then Dubravka will likely to have to replicate the performance he put in at Anfield quite a few times in the next six months.
