Jonjo Shelvey looks set to escape his Nottingham Forest hell with a move to Turkey on the cards for the former Newcastle United midfielder.

Newcastle United sold Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest in January this year on a two and a half year deal.

However, Shelvey has only made eight appearances for Steve Cooper’s side and hasn’t been seen since April after a falling out with the Forest boss and the 31-year-old now looks set to move to Turkey according to The Telegraph.

Shelvey fell out with Steve Cooper after being dropped

After being told he’d not be in the squad to face Liverpool, Shelvey had a training ground bust-up with Steve Cooper who sent the midfielder home and has stood by his decision ever since.

While the transfer window in England has closed, it still remains open in Turkey and Super Lig side Rizespor are hoping to seal a season-long loan move for the former England man.

It’s clear that Shelvey has no future at Nottingham Forest now so he can’t really afford to be picky about where he goes next if he wants to continue playing football.

It’s a shame to see a former Newcastle man fall from grace so hard.

There were always question marks over Shelvey’s commitment with many fans labelling him as lazy during his time at Newcastle, but there’s no denying that on his day he was a quality player.

Newcastle fans gave Shelvey a superb send-off after his move

His ability to pick out a long pass was second to none for a long time and under Steve Bruce that was very important when you’re playing hoof-ball.

Such was the Toon Army’s appreciation for him after a seven-year spell at the club, he was paraded on the pitch after his move to Nottingham Forest as he returned to Newcastle to watch his former side in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Southampton.

Hopefully the move goes through for Shelvey and he can get his career back on track.
